I don't mean to be rude, but being a full time coder would suck. I mean, I would want one or two coder traits, like the ability to make myself some weapons, but who would want 100% coder, all the time? I'm concerned that this change to the ability trees was a bit of a time waster. I mean, I could understand at least the bit about Operatives, but it just makes it all seem so strange to us veterans.
To get back on topic, who would be a coder? I'd like to hear everyones opinion on this profession that to me seems very... strange.
-
I can't seem to find anything about the Coder ability tree on the official boards - although I can find stuff on Hacker, Soldier and Spy. My guess is that Coder isn't quite complete. Otherwise I'd totally agree with you. Doing MxO's version of tradeskills all day wouldn't really light my candle. Then again, there are lots of people in EQ who choose to do tradeskills most of the time. And while I wouldn't choose to do it, there are also people in Lineage2 who choose the dwarf class, which is basically L2's version of what I think a Coder is.
The one thing about being a coder is this: you'll easily be a desired class for guilds since most people probably won't wanna be a coder. :p
-
They haven't released anything about the coders really. Soldier and spy went under Operative and Hacker is still just that.
It seems that they will be able to more than just craft items..
I read on somewhere (don't remember where) where they said something like, this would be the hardest one to master, but in the end also the strongest one if you do. I don't really get that though.

Must-say-something-serious-must-resist-urge-to-say-something-random-AHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Went down to the breakfast table thought I would die of shame. You wouldnt look me in the eye, wouldnt even shake my hand. It seems that I, have soiled my-good-name.....
Well it seems last night you caught me spankin it. No use denyin it I was really crankin it. Dry your eyes, dont be so ashamed, but dont use them tissues-theyve already been had.
Now you told me it was creepy when i was 17, but it must be really creepy when your kid is pushin 30.....
Ok, on topic now. Coder seems to be the class for the 00ber player, who wants to have tons of bitches at his side. I suppose you could become a serious player, makin tons of cash, and hiring bodygaurds, assigning some sort of wierd quests to people, you know, be like a real business manager. Or, more like the mafia or something.
-
Well that is...cool.
-
im guessing a hacker is more like someone who can get the nodes and can still fight, whereas a coder is more of the crafting class, creating code for everything, if thats the case im going to be a hacker/coder, but mostly coder, i gotta hook u guys up :)
-
People could probably just get coder abilities if they feel like crafting. Being as how abilities are so easily swapped out and all that you could just have some coder abilities equiped when crafting then be your soldier/spy, hacker/spy, soldier/hacker or whatever you wanted the rest of the time.
-
The coders would probably be merchants of sort.
A few weeks ago, i was playing Project Entropia(www.project-entropia.com) and I was only a merchant, trading and selling items.
It may seem more boring than hack hack slash slash, but being a merchant was tons of fun.
Although i don't plan to be a coder in MXO, being a merchant definitely has its merits.

I'm with you that Coders are probably crafters given their description on the MxO site and forums, but I think it's no question that hackers are going to be the casters. According to the main site description, they will at least be the buffers and healers, and they will probably also be the MxO equivalent of a mage with the description that they sling viruses and the like. I'm not sure what you mean by getting a node? I may have missed an article or update...
-
I figured they'd be the crafters.
-
Where did you see that?
-
Coders..... hmmmm. I got the impression that these coders would be As MUSE stated "and they will probably also be the MxO equivalent of a mage".
Coders may be the single best asset on a team. If they take the time to hone their skills, leveling is essence, imagine the edge they could supply a team with. Weapons, exits, skills, etc.
IMO - It seems like a pretty cool class. I'm sure they can still drop kick fools if need be.
-
Oh, no, I don't think coders will be like mages; I think hackers will be like mages. The MxO main page says:
Viruses
Buffer Overflow: fills the targets buffer with bogus data
Logic Bomb: disrupts the target's RSI, causing them damage
Vision Disruption: creates blindness in the target
Upgrades
Anti-Viral Sweep: attempts to remove any viruses affecting the target
Overclock: speeds up the processes controlling a character, granting them bonuses
Signal Bounce: grants an additional layer of signal protection to the target
-
My best guess on coder would be engineer or meta-physecist from Anarchy Online. Pet people.
-
muse i love u!!! i totally wasn't thinking of hackers were like mages, but it tottally makes sense lol thats awesome!!
-
Here is what I've found:
Opretive-Soldier=Figher
Opretive-spy=Theif/Roge
Hacker=char buffer/cleric/mage
Coder=pet class/item buffer/crafter
Some are more obvious then others, the exact role of hacker and coder are currently blurred and mixing as we try to untangle the two, since coder has more or less been pulled strait out of hacker. Info is as always limited but that is the currency of the game and seems to be a trend MxO is trying to set out of game as well as in. I've given you what I know, relate the classes to whatever game you would like.
P.S. Sorry for the compleat lack of posts lately
P.P.S. Since info is currency you all owe me :P
-
I call seniority.
Seniroity- A level 9 spell, with a radius of 12 posts. It allows the user to outrank any non captain, non administrator, that joined more than five days later than the user. It allows the user to void the post, or change it to his liking. It can be used once a day.
I change it so say "everyone but Iluvatar. Tbone(who is god), Seven (because he is god of ts), Cosmic(because you beat me on that damned poll), and Eclipse (because he'll play starcraft with me) owes me."
-
They say once theyre powerfull they can access the Matrix through the back door and do with it whatever they want. That sounds scary...but crafting sounds...extremely boring.
*you see a toiling coder behind the scene where Neo says "I want guns.Lots of em" trying to code more and more guns,in a coder sweatshop".
-
How else did you think they made all those guns so fast? A program? Mass production? Ridiculous!
-
I think they made all the guns using coder bots
-
Coder bots would be cool....
-
Coders... Can make Proxys, or simulacras, ALONG with crafting. Simulacras kick ass, methinks.
-
Coders are amazing.
Just the other day, I decided to change my class around, and see what fits because I had a shitload of Info. I went to the vendor and bought all the abilities for every person up to the first rank (second for Soldier and Spy).
I had always like soldier and being a hacker was okay, however I thouroghly enjoyed being a Spy and a Coder for the first time. Spies have lots of kool stealth moves, and Coders can actually make people! I created this one guy to fight for me the enitre time, it was awesome.
This experience has definatly changed my perspective on the Spy an the Coder.
-
That's cool. :)..but don't talk about that here.
*gets all shifty eyed*
-
Yeah, you're probablly best editing that post just in case
-
No idea what you guys are talking about, bu that's ok. Anyways I think Coder is an extremely hard class to master, but INCREDIBLY great for the reason being that you can become mega-rich if you have at all the least bit of business sense.
Think about it, who in the amtrix is the best known coder? One hint, he's french, selfish, and ugly. The Architect! LoL God I'm so corny, but seriously no, it's the Merv. All he is is a program that can code, and make codes and other programs. What do you guys think the Twins were other then very pumped up and complex Simulacrons?
Once you're able to master the coder, i.e. making weapons then selling them, and I'm not sure but if so, you can gain tons of info, then get an ability, then SELL those abilites which had cost you less info, but then sell it for more, thereby gaining you tons upon tons of info. Then you can go to vendors and find more skills. after that, besides building and coding simulacron, you can begin actually HIRING other players. How? "I'll give you this skill if you do such and such a mission for me, if you kill such and such person for me." That gives you Power. The power to influence people is beyond any power that anyone else can have. And Money is very influencial, and if you're a coder, and just by the skin of ya balls good at it, you can make tons of it.
Not to mention that if you're in a clan that you can create items for discount, or if you're a real softie for free, for your clan, equipping them with the most powerful weapons for a very very low cost; which makes the clan richer all around, which makes them able to, if they wish, buy more skills, allowing them to become better pve players and then better pvp players.
Coders, if used right, have an invaluable source use.

Hey guys, remember that the whole faction knows now, and there's no need to worry. (Even about those 'spies'. :roll1: )
-
But it is violating the NDA isn't it? Might not want to do that with Eris registered or do it at all in any case...
-
Well, you can talk to ebta testers, and if the whole faction's in beta, and if we have a "Sign Up For MxO Beta" thread, I think we can safely discuss it.
-
I'm not. I'll probably get invite soon though.
But no talking about beta here.
-
Jesus. Lets dump this thread. Use some discretion, folks. We've helped the MxO community a lot and it seems to me we should maintain a tight control over any rules set by the MxO developers.
-
I really would appreciate it if you'd be a little more discreet, folks. I'm already overlooking the 'Sign up for Beta' thread (which I really shouldn't be). We chose to reward the Furious Angels for being an overall positive force in the MxO community. That doesn't mean we're rescinding ALL the rules.
Okay? Thanks. :)
-
This thread was moved into the BETA Forum for what should be obvious reasons.
Eris can not see this forum.
This is the only place that any beta information outside of the sign-up thread should ever be posted.
