With Oculus at Gamescom this week, we should be getting a steady stream of information, albeit some of it may need translating. This next tidbit from a German publication says that Oculus plans to release the v2 devkit very shortly before the consumer version. The purpose it to make sure it's as close to the consumer version as possible.

So those of you hoping for an HD dev kit releasing this year might want to rethink that strategy!

An update on this from roadtovr:

One thing I did ask them however was whether the HD Prototype would evolve into a ‘DK2′ and was told plainly that it wasn’t on the cards or even economically viable. We’ll have to wait for the consumer version to experience the gloriousness of HD VR in our homes I’m afraid folks.

Sounds like there won't be a DK2 after all, or at least not one in HD. My guess is the big players will get updated prototypes while the Indie devs will just get updated SDK.
