Title: FA should enter the "2011 Recruitment Video Awards"
Post by: Mercio on June 09, 2011, 12:54:12 am
Hey guys,

People on the SWTOR forum are running a "2011 Recruitment Video Awards"

I'm not sure how legit or fair this contest is really going to be. But I know you guys have a great recruitment video. You should enter it in, and see what happens! If nothing else, it's free press. :P

Here's the url: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=334127

We've made so many - the question is, which video should we submit? We can only submit one, and they won't accept anything that's been done past June 5th. Should we just go with our "Are You An Angel?" video or use one of the Order ones?

Instead of using the existing CGI.... I have to say it's already been done... by us and by others. I understand there are a number of you in the Maryland area, including Tbone. Is it presumptuous to ask if we have the ability to make a live action video? I mean yes at best it would be amateur.  However, it is also something deeply ingrained in Star Wars fandom. Amateur fan made videos based in Star Wars lore is ingrained on not just internet geeks but star wars geeks as a whole. =p It's also something I haven't really seen in SWTOR yet. Knowing Star Wars fans though it's only a matter of time.

I say we stop letting Manic have a life and force him to learn how to animate quality CGI films that rival SWTOR's 'Deceived', 'Hope' and 'Return' teasers.

It has to have been made by June 5th and submitted by June 15th.

If I had to pick one of the orders, I feel like Velox probably is the most crowd pleasing.

I think we are going to have some problems with Jokerz... I mean, both of our endings have a spinning lightsaber... Judges could think we copied them...

Because all of those teasers were also made by one guy. :P

So let's decide on one as a whole and then send it in...

One of the trailers or the original one that was oringally done by Adad as a teaser trailer.

We have to submit by the 15th. Can we keep this on topic please. I just need votes to see which way we are leaning. So far only two of you have actually suggested a video.

I lasted to 1:34 seconds.  Did I miss anything?  No?

That video makes me want to roll a sith, go to their server, and wage a war.

That is all.

LOL. like one of the best.

unfortunately they capitalized on the current popularity of Nyan cat.

you are right that we should do it right. FA isnt one for doing comedy sketches or videos, but if we do, it should be original and not some rip off. instead of capitalizing on an internet meme, we become an internet meme instead.

at least my theory on it.

But you cannot deny the popularity these funny videos do generate for their creators. user created content like the Leeroy Jenkins video did more for WoW in advertising than blizzard did for its first few years. (they didn't start advertising to mass media until after BC was released) Nyhm's music videos were also a big draw as well.

People these days are drawn in more to comedy (even pathetic comedy) over serious effort anymore. I wont be suprised "NyanBot" will be the winner.

Not sure if this was followed up anywhere.
We placed third on the one judge I found who posted his scores.

As far as my scores go, I've no problems showing how I scored. However, this isn't Dancing with the Stars so I'm not going to try and justify each of my decisions. Some people clearly excelled, but I was far from bowled away by the majority of people just cutting up and showing the Official Trailers without adding anything particularly different to it.

The highest mark in any field was The Guardians with their Originality with a score of 18, but most crashed and burned with their efforts for the most part.

What can I say, I'm a hard guy to please.

Scores are marked:
Originality / Presentation / Inspiration

From highest overall score to lower:

GUILD NAME: The Guardians
18 / 17 / 16
Overall Total: 51

GUILD NAME: Principal Gods
17 / 17 / 14
Overall Total: 48

GUILD NAME: Furious Angels
15 / 14 / 13
Overall Total: 42
