Title: Minecraft
Post by: Manic Velocity on November 26, 2010, 09:06:08 pm
I've forced myself to stop playing for a few minutes in order to send this message:

SEND A GODDAMN RESCUE TEAM.

I can't stop. I don't want to stop. It won't let me stop.

It amazes me how huge these maps are.  I spent ten hours digging out a mine, and FINALLY reached the bottom of the map.  Ten fucking hours.

I started playing this at the beginning of the week.
Despite lacking an actual structure I keep messing around in there.

I only wish my imagination matched what I could pull off in game.

It's the ultimate sandbox. It took me a while to grasp the basics, but once I did I really took off with it.

My goal right now is to recreate MxO's Mara Central to scale. I'm sure I can do most of it from memory.

This game is RAD.  I have a server up.  Come build with me!

Buy the game here: http://www.minecraft.net/ only $15 bucks
likwidtek's Minecraft server = minecraft.omeganerd.com
News, updates = http://blog.omeganerd.com
Server status:
(http://minecraft.abyssal-legion.com/serverstatus/statimg.php?id=1099&theme=1) (http://minecraft.abyssal-legion.com/serverstatus/index.php?action=view&id=1099)

Server is up!

Survival Multiplayer Server.  Monsters enabled (for now, gimme some feedback and let me know your luck with them), please respect each others work.  Semi public as of now.  Depending on how it goes we may whitelist it in the future.  Depends on if people grief or not.  Right now I have it set to 10 players max.  I'll adjust as needed.

Point minecraft multiplayer mode to: minecraft.omeganerd.com

Here are some resources to get you started:

This has most every recipe that you need :)  http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Main_Page

Given that my last work got trashed on a supposedly good multiplayer server, I may pop into yours.

I have a tendency to create big plans in my head which then go awry when I just start hacking away at anything block size.

I have backups running on this server twice a day...  it's hosted at a cox datacenter.  I do a manual backup once a week or so.

I jacked the rebel pilot one from minecraftskins.  It's awesome.

Also, this server rules.  More people are welcome.  I'm upgrading the server to a 3rd party mod that allows more customizations.  MOTD and /sethome and /home being the ones I enjoy most.  Meaning, you can rebind your spawn point anywhere you want.  OH SNAP.

I popped onto the server.  I was amazed at the amount of lag I was getting for a game not all that sophisticated.

Will have to try again soon.

You located in the UK?  Hmm.. dunno man.  I have a buddy from Switzerland who hasn't complained of lag.  What are your system specs?
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: JazzyC on December 07, 2010, 11:27:24 am
I can assure you it won't be system specs.  UK broadband falls behind most first world countries in my opinion.  And the situation only gets worse the further you are from a city or town.

News and updates about the minecraft server can be found here:  http://blog.omeganerd.com/
Feel free to contribute screenshots and I'll make sure they get published.  You can submit through the site and I get a notification to publish it.

Also, I'm changing the DNS for the server to minecraft.omeganerd.com instead of LCSRV.com  they both work but update if you wish.

Minecraft will be going into Beta on December 20th!

http://notch.tumblr.com/post/2175441966/minecraft-beta-december-20-2010

Seriously, if you ever considered buying this game but have hesitated for whatever reason, your chance to get in on the ground floor is soon coming to a close.

Anyone who buys the game now, while in Alpha, will receive all future game updates for free!  THIS WILL NOT BE THE CASE AFTER DECEMBER 20TH!  Beta players will receive free game updates up until release.  No official word yet on how the pricing structure will work after that.

It's roughly $14 USD right now, and multiplayer is INSANELY fun.  I know FA could have some great times on our own server.

Ok, I bought an account and logged into likwidtek's server. It was empty. Killed a chicken and got a shovel out of it. Killed a sheep and a cow as well. That's about it so far.
Title: Minecraft
Post by: Ragnarok on December 12, 2010, 01:57:07 am
First you got a feather from the chicken not a shovel, unless the game was glitched. Second how was it empty? Was it just that no one is on, or are you just not finding any houses? If you were talking about houses you should have spawned right next to likwidteks.

You can dig with your bare hands, or any item.  Just, using the correct tool is vital for speeding up the time, and gaining blocks.

Haha, so I logged in and found likwidtek's house and it looked like he was in it. I opened the door and there was a spider! I slammed the door back and watched the spider murder likwidtek. Then I snuck in and took his phat loot. Now I have a sword!

I'll be opening up my server tonight, after I remove some unsightly constructions that my friend built. It's a "creative" server where you can build anything you want without fear of mobs. Spawn infinite blocks into your inventory and go nuts. Certain items like TNT and bedrock can only be spawned by admins.

It's just being run off my home machine, so expect a little lag if you bother connecting.

Server is moved.  minecraft.omeganerd.com still works but DNS might take some time to update.  For now the new server location is at mc.omeganerd.com.  I'll leave both of them pointed at the new location.  Please log in, test and let me know what you think and if you feel a difference.

I've been having fun on the server in my little island "fortress".  I wish there were more decoration items available though. I really want to make a nice home, but lack anything to make it feel homely.

I've been having fun with what is probably classed as an exploit with my chests.

That mean anything to anyone?  Not sure which driver it's referring to...

Likwid's server is a standard ruleset.  Animals and monster mobs.

My server is a "creative" ruleset.  No mobs at all, item spawning commands, with constant daylight so people can build whatever they want.

I've never had that error, but I used to get text files filled with error logs popping up on my desktop whenever I played Minecraft.

After browsing the MC forums for a solution, I uninstalled/re-installed Java and that seems to have solved the problem.  Might be worth a try for your issue.

what the hell?  are you serious? lol  Id love to know what they are talking about.  I logged in for the first time today to check out your server. I ran across the the water to a guys place named jestyr and talked with him for awhile, he game me some pointers and then I set out to find a unpopulated area.. I finally found a place that seemed empty and started to build a hidy hole to survive the night.  I ended up getting killed in the morning when I came out... the rest of the time I spent trying to get back to where I was because I forgot to bind myself.  I find it laughable that someone would think i would steal anything or do anything Especially considering Im on a fellow furious angels server. I have higher standards than that to be sure.   I was about to come on to these forums to ask you what happened.  I was afk for along time and when I came back it said I was banned...  someone is lying and it isnt me you can be sure of that.

LOL. I like how even griefing is creative in Minecraft.

I haven't seen Saint on before, so I doubt he would even know how to look in someone's chest. He certainly wouldn't know how the lava physics work. I just figured out the whole water in a bucket thing like yesterday.

Sunday the 19th is your last chance to pick it up at half-price, and get all future updates for free after the game goes gold.  Even if you don't like it, you're only out $13.

It's worth it.

Everyone else:
Could I get some feedback from some of the new users?  What are some things that are confusing right off the bat?  What could we add to the spawn house (on the omeganerd server) that would help you get started faster?  Is there anything you don't know how to do that is irritating?  Any other feedback so far?

I went with a coat-less look.  Hope that's ok.  I can add the coat if you'd like, but with all the white, it might not look very defined.

I really should start building stuff above ground.  It's all well and good messing around underground.  But no one can really just stumble upon it.

Got myself a portal created.  Then remembered multiplayer doesn't have access to the Nether.  Hopefully that's just a work in progress.

Lots of people are having trouble with the beta client.  Some of the bug fixes Notch implemented are causing a lot of lag and dropped framerates.

Updates should be coming fairly quickly, as the community is very vocal right now.  Looks like many of them confused "Beta" with "Gold".
Title: Re: Minecraft

Downloaded another update. I still can't even get into the select screen. I'm guessing my Java is crashing. It's hard to know if this is a beta issue or an issue with my laptop.

well I would start by doing this.

Uninstall Java
Reboot
Go to %appdata% and delete the .minecraft folder.
Delete the minecraft.exe file
Download the newest java
Make sure you have the newest video card drivers available
Reboot

Download the minecraft executable again and give it a shot.

My video card is a GeforceGo 7900 GTX. I don't think they've had an update for that card since 2007. In fact, the driver I'm running is for a Quadro 2500, because when my first card got fried, Nvidia's drivers would no longer work and that was the only fix I was able to find online. So...yeah...not much I can do with the graphics card. I'll look into the rest of it.

Since the beta update broke all the server mods and plugins, my server is now a vanilla SMP server. I've forged the beginnings of a base inside a mountain near the spawn point. Playing on likwidtek's server made me remember how much fun it is to build things AND try to stay alive.

I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to leave it this way or alternate between SMP and Creative.

I certainly intend to.  Except when hanging out with the others or participating in a group project, I'm going to pretend that big eyesore of a city doesn't exist.  It just seems so... carebear to me.

I probably won't even be taking advantage of the starting package, since I'd feel like I cheated using it so kick-start my new domain.

Since you're doing Minecraft again, why not try it with some mods?  Perhaps something from http://feed-the-beast.com/?

I've been running a server with the Yogcraft modpack, and it's FANTASTIC.  So much more fun than vanilla Minecraft, in my opinion, and easy as pie to use for both clients and servers with the FTB launcher.

Seriously, check it out.

I can't play vanilla minecraft anymore. Feed The Beast is without a doubt the best way to play.

You can get the DW20 private pack with the code Direwolf20_1_5 which is MC 1.5.7 I think. But it has most of the best mods available. I'm 100% for playing on an FTB server.
