The game promises to be epic. While it's supposed to be out on the 26th, I figured the date was close enough that there might be a leaked copy. I then stumbled upon this:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5297589/Mass_Effect_2-Razor1911
It's by a VIP, which means it's legit (in order to be VIP, you have to have a big reputation for quality releases...this guy wouldn't screw over his status and rep).
On my old connection, something like this would take me just a few hours to download. On my new connection, however, I'll probably have it downloaded just in time for the 26th...haha.
You could also wait until the 26th and buy it - it should be one of those worth buying. But if you want a sneak peak or an early start, I figured you'd appreciate the link. I'll post again when I've validated that it is working.
-
If you have it by the 26th you're doing better than me... mine is estimated at 5 wks 1 day! Lol

I've decided that if I get good grades from my Finals in December, I'm going to treat myself to ME2 and an Xbox360 :)

I also pre-ordered this baby from Gamestop simply for the above bonuses, mean who could resist the uber sexy Blackstorm? I can wait three days more for a toy like that.
-
I've installed the game and set up the settings. I haven't actually had time to start a game yet, but so far everything is working just fine from the download! Once I get off work in a few hours I'll start playing and make sure it is fully functional!

9.6/10!

Just played the prologue. Pretty sweet! Martin Sheen is in it! I carried over my save file from the first Mass Effect. Everything is working perfectly and smoothly!
-
Have you encountered anything critical yet that relies on your actions in the original Mass Effect? I'm very curious to see how this save transfer thing works out. I remember a fantastic Gameboy Advance game called Golden Sun that pulled it off quite well, it would be horribly ironic if a game like ME2 fell short of GBA game, haha.
-
Yeah, almost all your decisions carry over and they reference them several times early on in the game. For instance, I have a message from Anderson to go visit him at the Citadel since I chose him at the end of the first game. Also, I believe if you were paragon or renegade affects how people remember you and reference you when they run into you.

I played ME1 on my laptop but I'm getting ME2 for Xbox - can I choose my own story pre-game or during cutscenes ala KOTOR 2 style?
-
Yes. Either you can port in a save game or start from scratch. You can also still change certain things that you port over (change your appearance, focus, etc.)
-
I have really high hope for this game, I loved the Original and really digged the lore and feel of the game.
I was blown away by the demos and first impressions, it seems the improved so much which is what I love Bioware for.
It should be here within a few hours, I can't wait!
-
You won't be disappointed. I'm still trying to finish Borderlands but I'm afraid I never will if I get too involved in ME2!
-
Wow! Just Wow! This game is really well done, I expect this from Bioware -- However to see the transformation from ME1 to ME2 is just out of this world.
This will be a Top 5 games of the Year no problem.
-
No! I'm so jealous my 360 is being fixed so I have to wait 14-21 days before I can play it.

If you haven't played ME1 yet, go play it right now and then start ME2. It's so mind blowing the number of things affected in ME2 by what you did in ME1. Many times I'm thinking "what would this be like if I had done something else??"
-
So i just got this and i gotta say, it feels a lot like the original only with a little more accessibility towards things like upgrading and leveling up. It took me a while to get used to the idea of using ammo but it's not too bad since most, if not all, third person shooters have ammo. I kinda prefer the weapon firing system but this one i think is the reason it feels so action oriented. Add to this that your game save from the first gets imported along with certain important choices, well, you get the idea.
Get this game if you enjoyed the original. So far it feels like a perfect continuation to the first which is what i'm definitely digging.
-
I bought an Xbox for this. So far I'm not disappointed. At all.
-
I miss the old ammo system, I had such a set up that I was never able to overheat my pistol, and had a rapid fire that made it just as fast as the assault rifles, now I had a clip that I have to worry about and can run out of that ammo. :-( I also don't like the planet scanning, as its quite boring and never changes, at least in the Mako I had some fun trying to find ways up cliffs and ways to jump off of them.
Storywise, great. Love it. Even thought this play though is paragon style I still find times that I'm have to make a choice of what I want to do/say. I love the new team, and love all their little stories, and often finding myself thinking for a few seconds who do I actually want to take along for this mission. (As I'm not stuck with the same two to just to get achievements.) Combat is alright, very Gear of War.
And no more texture popping, yay!

Why would you buy a Xbox for just one game? Wait never mind I bought a ps3 for MAG.
-
The game is on PC, you know...

The game is on PC, you know...
Because my computer is 6 years old and need an update, but I have no money, and it just works on the Xbox, and it's a long enough game that I want to relax on a couch and not at a desk to play it.
-
Just finished it. Amazing. Imported my character, doesn't affect it too much but the little things it does do it pretty fun. Good, overall. I miss my gun that never had to be reloaded. And hated the little pictures that you teammates used.
It took me three times to get the perfect ending. But its done. Now off to do it renegade style.
-
Just finished it a few hours ago too. The game is just amazing plain and simple. I loved the new style and the way they made it feel through movement and the improvements here and there.
They did such a great job going from the ME1 to ME2.
It only took my one try to get the perfect ending, :P Eroz. ;)
Yea importing doesn't make a huge difference, but it is nice to see them reference a lot of things from the first game.
I mean will it affect your gameplay? No.
Will it make it more enjoyable and fun to hear about your "doings" from the first game? Yes.
Game deserves a 10 out of 10.

I'm about 1/2 to 2/3 way through. I am fucking loving Thane.
-
Thane is one of the greatest characters Bioware has done, IMO. I also love Legion and Grunt.
Insanity = Full of Win. A game mode where it's hard enough to force you to think on your feet and pay for every mistake you make.
I played very relaxed and casual on my first play through, took 37h 07min.
This time (second play through) I'm gonna say, i'll add on about 10 hours to that due to the insanity factor.

Unlike a lot of you wimps (j/k) I did it on Veteran the first time through. Took me 50+ hours, but then again, I did everything. I started my insane playthrough, but needed to go back to the final battle and switched back to that character, somehow still setting it to insane somehow so I've ran most of the final battle on insane, its not forgiving, but you just have to slow down and think about what your doing. Although for the achievement I may skip all the loyalty missions and just complete the game that way.
-
Yea, I've been debating skipping it all for the final mission. I'm not sure how hard that will be though, you will be very under geared for it. The harbringer Collector's are insane enough on their own without the insanity conditions.
Yea, I played on the standard setting because I assumed the other were unlock able like ME1, big surprise when I realized that was not the case.

Don't you keep weapons and armor through NewGame+?
-
Ah I see what your saying, I thought about doing that but I decided to start from Lvl 1.
I really thought about speed running it but, I'm gonna beat it fully on insanity. It will take a while I'm sure but should be fun.
-
I've had Thane die on me during the Suicide Mission and I've just started! How do I stop this?
-
How is he dying?
-
Closing the first door - shot in the head and dies instantly.
I believe it's a lack of loyalty. I dont have full loyalty for Legion, Miranda or Zaeed due to the onboard arguements after set missions.

Nope, you can have everyone survive even without all that loyalty.
SPOILERS IN WHITE TEXT (Someday if we ever change the background color of the website, all of these are going to be visible.)
Thane is not enough of a Tech Specialist to be able hack the door close, so he starts to push it close, and gets shot in the head. (Without Legion's loyalty, you only have one squad member that is good enough.) Or your Fire Team leader sucks at being a leader and doesn't provide suppressing fire to give him time to hack it shut. (Without Miranda loyalty you have 2 squad mates that can do the job right.) It's either both of those or one of those.
-
I just beat the game and my whole crew survived. I did all the ship upgrades and had everyone as loyal. Also, as Eroz mentioned, make sure you choose the right people. Garrus or Miranda for squad leadership...Legion or Tali for hacking...Sarana or Jack for bubble...and I sent Mordin as escort.

I'm playing through ME1 (just bought it) - it's terrible in comparison to ME2, but I remember thinking 'whoa this is amazing' when I played it on my laptop about 12 months ago. Despite this, it makes the whole story feel much more personal. I hated ME's canonical ending. Apparently you [SPOILERS IN WHITE] don't save the council, you let them die (renegade ending), you have no relationship with Ashley, Kaidan or Liara and you kill off Wrex.
If I come across any more I'll tell you.
