Gary's Mod is an editing tool that lets you play with the Game Engine (Source) and put what you want from any Source game (TF2, Half-Life 2, Portal, etc.) into a sandbox and experiment with physics.
It's a single-player.
-
Yeah, it lets you mess with their animations in a HUGE number of ways to make your own custom screen shots, wall papers, or even Gif animations. It's pretty humorous if you have a lot of time and imagination to mess with it.

There is a multi-player option in the latest update. Haven't yet experimented with it though.
For ten bucks, some might consider it over priced. There's no real goal other than to play around with the Source engine. Once you get the hang of how all the tools work, it can get fun.
-
I played it a few years ago when it was free. I was surprised when suddenly you had to pay for it, since it is essentially a sandbox for games you already have.
Still can be lots of fun if you are creative, though.

Like how the G-Man is there.
Did you beat HL2 and the Episodes, yet? =P

I love the G-Man to no end. My favorite part of playing HL2 was exploring a destroyed apartment complex and hearing some weird music playing. I followed the music, turned a corner and found it coming from a television sitting on a pile of rubble. The image on the screen was just of the G-Man, standing still. He looked at me, adjusted his tie, and the TV shut itself off. It was the ultimate "What. The. Fuck." moment.
Beat HL2. One of the best games I've ever played, and I regret waiting this long to play it.

Play the EPISODES! You get so much more story out of them.

I played the fuck out of the HL2 and its episodes lmao...I love Valve's way of story telling through looking at the environment and such.
