Title: P90X
Post by: Tbone on September 07, 2009, 10:01:29 pm
I wasn't going to bother mentioning this, as it was just something Broin and I started up when I casually asked him about wanting a workout routine, but it seems enough people are interested to warrant a thread.

P90X is a pretty intense 90 day workout regiment. A lot of you guys seem to have done it, are doing it, or have an interest in doing it. Broin and I just started today, so if you're interested, start now! Adad and Yotogi might be starting later this week. I believe Arch or someone mentioned wanting to start it back up as well.

For your convenience, here are the videos and documents you'll need:

http://followtheangel.org/tbone/P90X.torrent

I'll try to keep that link up for at least a day or so. You'll also need at least two sets of dumbbells (I'm using 2x 10lbs and 20lbs, or you can get the pricier adjustable ones) and either a pull up bar ($30 at Target) or resistance bands. Other than that, you just need a chair, water, and possibly a towel.

It takes up a little over an hour of your time. Those of you with regular schedules might want to discuss a good time each night to have a P90X hour. My schedule is pretty sporadic, so I'm going to be having a tough time staying consistent. It'd be nice to have a time that I know most everyone else will be doing it, though.

Ok, great, let's "bring it"! (so cheesy....)

I'm in if anyone else wants to do it.  We can let Tbone and Broin be a couple days ahead... But let me know who else is in.

Problem is my scheduling tends to be as sporadic as yours, T. -_-

I'm going to leave the torrent running while I'm at work. Seeing friends (RL and online) doing this really encourages me into finally getting into decent shape, so I'm going to give it a shot.

Um, an hour and 40 minutes of yoga?? I got time, but not that much time. I did 40 minutes today and in the future will try to block out more time for it. I'm sure it's thorough, but hour and 40 is a bit much...EXTREME, if you will. Haha

Yeah I don't have an 1 hour 40 minutes to spare to do yoga, I'm not a self-depressed chick! :)

That hour forty is better spent on Statics homework. At least during the school semester.

Yeah Yoga is the longest one... My suggestion is if you don't have time for that then is replace it with the Kempo or Cardio.

Personally I don't like the Yoga but it is good for balance and strenghtining  those muscles that you don't really no exist.

Yoga is actually fairly helpful if you give it a chance. It's definitely not he manliest form of exercise, but at the very least it is really relaxing. And it does help with staying limber and maintaining/improving balance.

I will be doing this with the included nutrition plan.  Doubt I'll use the supplements because I've already got a protein shake I've been taking but if it doesn't look like I'm getting the full effect I might think about it.

Anyone else doing the nutrition plan and if so which type?

Also I'm curious to know if anyone else took the fitness test and what their results were?  (I'll be taking mine momentarily so I'll post them then)
Title: P90X
Post by: Tbone on September 13, 2009, 07:22:08 pm
I am not doing the nutrition plan nor did I do the fitness test. The supplements would be nice but I'm trying to keep my excess spending down right now. I've cut out sweet tea and soda though to help a bit. Keep us updated on how all that together is working for you.

Starting week 2 tomorrow!

Got out of the shower this morning, and severely tweaked my left tricep just trying to dry myself off.  The pain was absolutely intense.

I'm just focusing on arms and back.  My legs always seem to be in tip-top shape, but my arms are weak.  Not doing the nutrition plan because health food around here is extremely overpriced.

When you are starting this please make sure that you work out so that you can continue to work out.  Don't go overboard and push yourelf to hard the first week or two... Use the first week to ease into the routines.

I don't get it...?

Is it weird that my mother works out and has those adjustable weights? Is it weird that I have to wait until Christmas break when I can be in the comfort of my own home rather than in a cramped dorm? Is it weird that I, like most everyone else here, want to do this with each others support?

Am I missing something? Some sexual connotation that everyone else seems to get except me? I'm lost...

I think it's the whole "borrowing your mom's free weights" thats a bit sketchy.  But I tell you what, if your mom is as hot as Manic's then I'll let it slide.

Okay so I just finished my first week and I can already feel a difference.  I'm really getting excited to see what how this turns out.  Most of my workouts have been done from 10p - 1am in the morning and I've realized that I need to switch the times I do the Plyo and Kenpo because trying to go to sleep while your hearts still beating a million miles a minute is pretty much pointless.

I have also lost 3.5 pounds this week due to their nutrition guide.

So who's still keeping up with the program and who has already slacked off?
Title: P90X
Post by: Adad on September 20, 2009, 11:18:32 pm
I finished week 1 as well, won't lie, I skipped Yoga and Ab-ripper for week one.  Don't worry, will hit them this week, just wanted to ease in.
Title: P90X
Post by: Tbone on September 21, 2009, 01:36:30 am
For week 2, I missed Yoga and Kenpo. I was going to try to make up Kenpo on the day off, but was too busy then as well. It's more of a scheduling issue than a commitment issue. And I'm not the type of person to wake up at 5 a.m. to workout and then work all day until 11 p.m.

Hopefully I can catch up on that extra round of Kenpo sometime...and I'm thinking of replacing Yoga with Cardio...

I like how Tony is still doing more reps than I am with more weight while talking the ENTIRE TIME without even getting winded.

"Now some of you may need to take a break here" as I'm rolling around on the floor. Shut up, Tony!

I missed Plyo today. I'll definitely have time Thursday and will replace Yoga with Plyo.

Same here on both accounts, went out last night and was sad I missed it, but yay yoga replacement.  Why is it that on chest/back i did less reps this week than last.  I felt pathetic.  I think because I fast forwarded the 5min warm up maybe... either way it was sad.

Post by: Ash on September 23, 2009, 12:28:24 pm
I must say I've pretty much been a "by-the-book" guy with this whole program but I can be safe in saying that skipping any part of the workout is not a good thing.  I've been eating healthy foods since I started except for Saturday and it totally screwed me over when I worked out later that night.  I couldn't complete have the exercises.  Overall I have seen a noticeable difference from the 1st week to now as well as some muscle growth so those two keep me focused on the next days workout.

Still gonna kill Tony Horton though...maybe I'll poison his German Potato Soup.

How is this going for everyone? I got through three weeks with only missing three days. However, last week I started my new job and my schedule dramatically changed. It was recovery week, but I didn't have time to do anything. This week my schedule is still crazy hectic. I just can't find the time in the day to do it. :( I may have to pick it back up once my schedule calms down. In a few weeks I'll have my evenings free. I think I'll pick it back up then.

I've lost about 7 pounds of fat while increasing definition throughout my upper body but then again I'm doing the nutrition plan in addition to just the workouts so my eating habits have gotten a 100% better.  (Not that I was such a slob before)

As for the "pain" issues, just make sure you have some clean carbs after your workout and it pretty much eliminates the soreness.

Yeah, I got to about 30 days and then my schedule changed and I couldn't keep at it. The time commitment is just intense. I could definitely feel the results, though. If I ever get a normal schedule with that much free time, I'll need to do the whole 90 days for sure.

It definitely works as long as you stick with it and get into pushing yourself to YOUR limit. I can't pull off what these guys do just starting out so going to the point of my limit until i can works.

Just stick with it and you'll see, Definitely worth the effort if you have the time to dedicate to it. I've recently started this again now that my schedule has become a bit more predicatable.

I'm tempted to grab something like this to help with my training.

Those of you who have used it can I ask a couple of questions.  Is it effective?  How long is it before you start noticing some difference (nothing major, but a change)?  How does it work, do you have to do all parts or can you chop and change depending on what you want to work on?  And finally, how much room do you need to do this?

If you can't re-download it, I can share the one I was given by the marines (UK); it's flexible and yet intense at the same time. All it asks is about an hour a day for 5 days a week. Within 2 weeks I upped my running mileage by 4 miles which is nuts.

I was going to start it up again this week, but didn't. My plan is to start on Monday. Yes, I WILL START ON MONDAY. I WILL!

I have let my back rest since November.  I will begin on Monday.  Time to get back into shape.

I just started working out at the gym with my cousin and some friends... I was thinking of getting this, but tbh I couldn't afford it :S

Do you guys recommend it? Should I save up to buy it?

P90X? I wouldn't, but that's just me; I'm a tight bastard :p. I'd just go to the gym with your cousin and mates; it's amazing how much harder you work with others.

P90X does work if you keep up with it.
Had my best work out results using the bowflex until I injured my shoulder doing something wrong.  However, I am thinking of re-starting a workout routine anchored with P90x but with a few bowflex workouts in there also.

I've gone from 173 to 159/160 on only a few weeks of p90x. I've had people at work constantly telling me I look skinnier and if I'm doing anything. aside from cutting down on soda all I've been doing is p90x. I'd highly recommend it. My girlfriend is constantly on me and hugging me cause she's so shocked as to how my body is changing so rapidly. Plus it feels goods looking in the mirror and seeing myself change for the better

I'm in day two of p90x... and hurt as expected.

I've dropped from 177 to about 162 with diet alone - no changes in behavior and no exercising - so figured the next step was to actually sweat a bit.

Is there anyone able to seed this for a few days? I need to re-D/L it.
