My new apartment is pretty sweet. Maybe the only thing better is my new internet. My boss said I could get whatever internet I want and the company would pay for it. We also got the premium cable. So I opted for their brand new (been out maybe a month) 50/mb line. Apparently I'm the second person to have ordered it, and the guy who came to install said it was his first time installing it. I got a brand new D3.0 modem to handle it and the guy even brought his supervisor because they wanted to see it action. Once everything was set up, we did a speed test:

wow... can I host my webpage on your box? ...and my FTP, and 5 other servers? It'll only take like %10 of your bandwidth!

Jesus, son. That murders my connection...7mb/s download and .50mb/s upload. Hah!

haha.. now I am extremely jealous.. I was going to be getting 24/mb per sec on fiberoptic line here in three months.. and I thought that was going to be impressive..
VERY NICE!

Now for a snap back to reality... for those of us who have to pay for internet, a moment of silence...

I get 48.41 down and 1.28 up. (on 2/5 bar WiFi)
The up speed is what really counts when it comes to hosting. The down is great for streaming.
Datacenter hosting is usually sold on 100mb lines, it seems residential is getting closer and closer to those speeds. But the up speeds aren't up to par yet.

Man I love downloading torrents at 2 MB/s and still being able to web-browse lightning fast, talk on TS, and probably play an online game as well!
