Title: 64-bit OS Users?
Post by: Da6onet on June 30, 2009, 10:10:08 am
Anyone running (or used to run) a 64-bit os like xp64 or vista64?

I'm curious if you've run into any specific problems (like lack of driver support, certain games not running, etc).

My hard drive failed last Friday and I'm tempted to load a 64-bit version of windows on my new one (also have 4gb of ram that wasn't getting used).

I ran 64-bit Vista Ultimate, and I'm now running 64-bit 7 Ultimate.

Haven't had any problems with drivers, or with games not running.

I'm using vista 64-bit.  No real issues.

Apparently when 7 is officially released in October it will contain both 32 bit and 64 bit discs. The pre-order (for pro) is only $100, from what I hear, that seems to be quite the deal.

Anyone else have experience using 7?

Well I found out Adobe doesn't support flash player on 64-bit browsers (i.e. Minefield), so I'll have to use the much slower 32-bit version of Firefox (gasp!)

Download the RC and give it a try.

I've been using Windows 7 64-bit for several months on my gaming machine with no problems.

I installed XP 64 on my parents new computer and they have had zero problems. (The old HP printer lacked driver support, but found a workaround after an hour of messing around)

From my trials, it seems to run like a dream.. Basically Vista with some major fixes and feature additions.  The also made it more OS X like.

Running the x64 version of the RC. It's everything I expected Vista to be, a smooth, sexy and fast OS. I am very impressed with the amount of driver support even this early release has (recognized everything I had). My system actually scores higher in 7 than it does in Vista, which tells me they have some nice optimizations in 7. From what I can tell in benchmark tests it is on par with XP as far as fps in game performance, though it loads things a hell of a lot faster now.

This could be the start of something, the first Microsoft software I actually pay for!

Yeah Windows 7 is pretty solid. I never had many problems with Vista though. Only thing that really bothered me is how Vista manages multiple monitors but I'm not sure 7 will be much better on that.
