Title: Our Hamlet and Other Concerns
Post by: Tbone on April 23, 2009, 04:24:20 pm
So I've received a few concerns- mainly about our hamlet. I'm just gonna ramble on about a few things...haha.

For those of you who don't know, our hamlet is in a very unforunate place. It also lacks any sort of defense or perk. Other hamlets usually have a perk or two, but none of them that I've seen provide any defense. The game mechanics are such that hamlets are useless to defend. They are mainly targets for gank squads to come through and kill harvesters.

Our hamlet is very close to the Mirdain newb areas, making it a key location for enemy gank squads to gear up before killing newbs. Because of this, it receives a lot of enemy traffic that is near impossible to control...especially since the hamlet provides no defense of its own. The best reason for us to keep the hamlet is that it prevents our enemies from taking it and having a bind point so close to Mirdains.

I know it's aggrivating to have people essentially pissing on our territory, and we've had several sessions of guarding it, waiting for enemies to show up. 99% off the time they show up when we aren't sitting there doing nothing but waiting on them, though.

We picked this hamlet because...it was the only one we could find. The game was bugged at release so that people - particular those in the Mirdain territory - were unable to kill anything, and thus unable to get gold. Certain groups found mobs that were bugged in a way that made them easy to kill (rather than the invisible ones we had that were impossible to kill), and so we fell behind in the "prime real estate".

So what do we do about this now? Unfortunately, the Mirdains are...well, they're pussies. Oromea is scared of losing their city, so their sucking some Alfars (yes, I said this directly to their leader). The rest of the poorly made "Forest Republic" went north to team up with the Mahirim. We're left as one of the few Mirdains left upholding the values of protecting Mirandil against the enemy. This leaves us with very little backup, which means it's just us for a while. We usually prefer this anyway, but it does make things much more difficult. We're gonna lose a lot and feel pissed on a bit. One thing we've learned though is perseverence pays off...

So we keep skilling up, recruiting, learning...we analyze other Mirdain clans and see which might be hardcore enough to take the "path not taken" route and get some friends... we lurk in the shadows and strike back with precision. We grow, adapt, and before long start suceeding while others start failing. I never said this was going to be easy, but then wouldn't you be bored? Would you really rather be standing on the south side of Tughri with a stick for 5 hours because you've been assigned "lookout".

We're not big on alliances, but on the agenda is to begin a counter-movement to the "let's make friends with everybody" mentality of the other Mirdain guilds. It's already begun. All Alfars are free game outside of Tughri (only because of respect for Oromea, despite their poor decisions). We'd prefer a hamlet that's off the beaten path...somewhere more mysterious and hard to get to. We found a good location, and the officers have been discussing options...but everything is connected to huge alliances in this game, so even something that looks vulnerable most likely is not.

I know a lot of you have been frustrated or are getting frustrated. Unfortunately there's been a lot of cheating and there still is (speed hacks, power-leveling, etc.). I'll remind you FA does not tolerate these things. It's been said that complete afk macroing is not allowed in the game, so also remember not to leave your character overnight macroing. We're doing things the hard way, but slow and steady win the race. I appreciate everyone being dedicated to the cause and pitching in where needed. To those of you who have been with us a while, I know we're used to being the top dog and knowing everything - thanks for sticking with it when we don't have it easy. To those of you who are new - I know the big zergs and giant cities can be tempting, so thanks for having some faith in our causes and principles.

Alright, I've guess I've rambled on enough. I've just noticed some tempers rising a bit and wanted to assure everyone that we do have a game plan other than "be walked all over" ;)

The way we do things is the reason I am here... If I wanted it easy I wouldn't have taken that hard a$$ challenge you had at the release of MxO... I'm in it for the long haul..

nicely put boss man; and could not have put it better myself mr heir;)

As an aside do please all make the effort to come on TS even if you dont want to chat or whatever. It lets faction/ clan/ guild members know that there are friendly faces online even if all you want to do is craft etc.

Well said, sir!

I look forward to getting my ass kicked alongside my fellow Angels, now that my computer is fixed!
I know for a fact that if we can only persevere and stick with it, that eventually we'll become the best PvPers on the server.  Skill in fighting comes from constant fighting (duh), and we'll most definitely be getting tons of fighting at Inarith from here on out.

So... I'd say we are going to need our members to start looking at the various Mirdain clans around and seeing if they'd be likley candidates for allies against the way things are being done now.

what say you?
