IT'S BEEN DOING IT FOR MONTHS. I HAVE TO POWER CYCLE OVER AND OVER TO GET IT BACK UP, YET THE LAN CONTINUES TO WORK. FINALLY I GET PISSED OFF ENOUGH AND GO TO FUCKIN OFFICE DEPOT AND GET A FUCKIN $115 LINKSYS GIGABYTE ROUTER CUZ IS JUST DON'T GIVE A DAMN AND WANT THE PROBLEM TO GO AWAY AND LESS THAN 24 HRS LATER I GET HOME FROM WORK AND...FUCKIN 1.0MBPS AND NOTHING IS CONNECTED! MY DOUCHEBAG ROOMMATE BOUGHT THE MODEM AND HE'S TOO MUCH OF A STONER TO LOOK INTO THAT, PLUS THE CABLE IS UNDER HIS NAME SO I CAN'T GET VERY FAR IN SUPPORT. um.. just grab a copy of the bill and ask him for the last four of his social.. that will get you everything you need to get full support on internet support and billing.... at least with ATT wireline it will..
-
You need to have them (the cable company) monitor the signals on your transmit and receive. I'll bet you dollars to donuts you're having signal issues and they need to come out and put an amplifier on your dataline.
If you're using a splitter remove it and go straight from the wall to the cable modem.
-
Wait you say you don't have this issue if you are connected via ethernet as opposed to wireless? If your connection never drops that low over ethernet but it does via wireless and you've already replaced the router then there's something interfering with your wireless signal. Cordless phone, microwave, lead painted wall or door? Did you try different wireless channels?
Please clarify. ;)
-
I've tried every wireless channel. Every type of band. Moved everything around. Yeah, yesterday, while the wireless still wasn't working, I took my laptop into the other room and plugged it into the router via ethernet. The internet was fine when I did that, while the wireless still wasn't working. What sort of interference would instantaneously corrupt the signal from 54.0 to 1.0 and only stop interfering after I've power cycled the router and modem??
My best guess is that either the line or the modem is dropping the connection quickly, tripping out the router. The wireless bugs out until resent (sometimes even a reset of BOTH doesn't help, though), while the ethernet is fine once the quick drop goes away. I dunno...

this could just be a shot in the dark but change the name of your SSID and your current encryption type.
It sounds like you've got a neighbor who's syphoning your wifi. Somewhere you've got a wifi user who's become a botnet and flooding your signal with traffic
-
I've tried that too. All different levels of encryption, including using a strict mac address filter. No change. I've checked the DHCP client table, and right now, for instance, it's just my laptop and my iPhone. My laptop works in all other wifi spots just fine without any disconnects, so I know my computer isn't tripping it.
-
Woke up today with the wireless down. After power cycling three times and it still not going back up, I connected via an ethernet cord and instantly was online. Wireless has remained down, but recently it reconnected itself, but is only connected at 6.0Mbps instead of the usual 54Mbps. I suspect if I power cycle at this point, it'll probably go back up to 54. I've been looking at the router settings and can't find anything wrong with them.

There has to be some sort of wireless interference in your apartment. It's gotta be. Cordless phone? Microwave? Where is the router in relation to your laptop? Also this happens to all of your roomates too not just your right?
-
It happens regardless of location.
A quick update. Linksys support just made me upgrade my firmware (I had just bought the new router and hadn't bothered to do that) and used that to get off the line with me. Cox (my cable company) made me ping my gateway, and used that as an excuse to get off the line with me. I told both of them they were wasting my time..sigh...

Yes, happens to everyone. Chatted the ear off of a computer geek in Office Depot, who eventually said he had no fucking clue and that it had kinda happened to him before and he just gave up and used a network cable. lol

It's some sort of wireless interference. There is some device in the apartment that is screwing with your connection. Just run a couple long ass ethernet cables.
