That said, expect the Furious Angels to be renamed.
Any ideas for new names?

Welcome to the Matrix Online
Walrus: *giggle* play-doh is fun

de-raah FUeeneayooee-ku AE-ha-kukahm-ku,
And that's phonetic.
(A cookie to the person that can figure out which fictional languge that is)

Most definitely something from Lord of the Rings, but definitely not Elven. For some reason, it reminds me of Entish...
ON TOPIC: What a load of crock. There is no way that they can go through with all this. They'd have to re-name everything in-game and the movies.

I think we might make it through this since we havent gotten called out for it yet, but who knows maybe now that it is being enforced maybe someone just pointed out their name was against policy.

Dag or anyone who read the post, can you shed some light on what the thread was about?

Basically, the faction was renamed for a religious connotation. Yes, a religious connotation in the Matrix online. What a fucking shocker.
Brewko called Beechead into the White Room, told him to get everyone from his faction offline immediately (or they'd be banned) and then told him that he had to rename his faction or that he would be banned. When he jacked back in, he found that his faction was renamed "The Rename". No explanation. No nothing.
Yes, that really is true, and the last time I saw the topic, it had over 28 pages of posts. Most of it happened from 9pm EST to 9am EST.
Going through another thread on the topic, Walrus posted some promising stuff.
Okay, folks. Let's relax a minute, here.
The faction name does technically violate the naming policy, which can be found here:
http://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bin/soe.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=16279
So, when the name was brought to CS attention, they were going by the book.
However, as we all know, the movies were filled with religious references and that many players, crews, and factions went along that line when choosing names. We're not going to change the names of long-standing groups based on this policy. This is just a case where going by the book isn't the best policy.
I'm working with CS on this issue now.
While I understand the frustration, let's not bash on the CS team, please. They were doing their job in this case and didn't have the historical knowledge to advise them about the full implications. We'll be working together to keep issues like this from happening again.
-
It's fucking stupid.
Basically our faction name is a violation.
*waits patiently for brewko to give it to us up the ass*

Supposedly its all been taken care of now.

OMG Walrus is my hero, he knows exactly how to fix his team's incompetence and make the community rejoice in celebration for something that never should have happened in the first place.
-
They made a mistake, owned up to it, fixed it, and are taking the necessary steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. That doesn't happen very often these days. I think a little credit is due, despite the sheer idiocy of the mistake.

/agree

at least they didn't act how we expected which would be the I'm a CSR and your not attitude. I'm happy they fixed it and hopefully we won't get targeted about our name anymore.
-
What was the faction name in question to begin with?
-
The Tetragrammaton

Oh of course not... Walrus hasn't made any mistakes ever in the last 10mins.
-
Well I'm quiet glad this means Brewko has someone to answer to, as such, this means he's gets chewed out for NOT paying attention to the rest of the commuity. :) Let Justice be Done.
Most definitely something from Lord of the Rings, but definitely not Elven. For some reason, it reminds me of Entish...
Sorry Ana, that would be incorrect, but then again as you don't know the real letters, you can't write it down. But those letters are simply encoded, Look up 'Al Bhed Translations' ;) Woot go Square Enix!

Dude, people make mistakes. The only difference is that the majority of them would be much more satisfied to pass the buck onto someone else than admit they screwed up. The fact that this whole thing caused SOE to reverse their policy on faction names, in less than 24 hours, is pretty cool. It shows how much pull the community can have. I don't think it hurts to find the silver lining with stuff like this.
I just can't bring myself to believe that Walrus is some suit sitting behind an ivory desk, with a cigar in one hand and a glass of scotch in the other, who wakes up in the morning and giggles to himself in the mirror as he thinks up new and devious ways to destroy MxO and its community.

No your right he isn't. He is too dumb to realize what he is and the only reason he reversed anything was because over 20 pages were posted in a matter of what 5 hours? Anybody in that position would do that, duh.
Let's see what else his incompetence has led to:
Fumble a patch deadline by a week, and then I get him to admit that he was two weeks behind schedule, and it was *funny* to him.
Brewko has been the center of many conspiracies time and time again, I don't see Walrus nipping that.
Banning people is a joke to him and his dev team, people who should be banned are banned and then he can't take the crying and unbans them, then he continues to bitch at then for doing shit on the forums
He pretty much trolls the MxO forums all day long, there isn't a second when his name isn't in the online list, must be a work break right.
Every time he posts a Look Glass it is filled with nothing but "damn I wish my vacation was longer" and "how can a short week seem so long" and "Oh goodie I'm going to headquarters to promote MxO" So lets all feel bad for Walrus and the job he is forced to do with only 10 weeks of vacation time.
And then LESIG or whatever it is called is a wreak, with bias events and bias players.
So just because he reversed some bullshit policy ain't a time to call Walrus dad.
-
Actually, a majority of the stuff that Walrus says is his fault probably isn't. He's the face of the staff so it is his job to make the apologies. That doesn't mean Walrus is a screw up. That just means they screw up from time to time.
The truth of the matter is at least they cared enough to have a LESIG. SOE made the cuts that screwed the game, and the MxO Staff had the decency to explore alternatives. Of course LESIG isn't perfect, and that's because it's not a LET like we were used to. Our choices are pretty limited - LESIG team that has its problems or no Live Events at all.
Walrus isn't the one with the attitude problem either. Brewko definitely has some issues. I think he's kinda like Psycidelicos if he were a CSR. He'd boss people around because he can and get involved in drama and help his friends and screw over his enemies. All this because he probably was picked on as a kid in RL and he was too scared to be a cop so he gets his power trips online (not to say all cops are power tripping, but some definitely have the complex).
Walrus is usually cleaning up Brewko's mistakes, and while Brewko's superiors took the blame because of the backwards naming policy, they can't take the blame for Brewko's attitude and treatment of players that has been a constant problem since the beginning.
-
There's only one solution..... *grabs a can of rat poison*
Seriously... I feel sorry for the Wal-myster... :'( Give me 5 mins alone with Brewko and I could make him see "the light" :D
-
No your right he isn't. He is too dumb to realize what he is and the only reason he reversed anything was because over 20 pages were posted in a matter of what 5 hours? Anybody in that position would do that, duh.
The policy was reversed, and the head-hancho CSR of SOE wrote a personal letter of apology to the faction leader. What more do you want?
Let's see what else his incompetence has led to:
Fumble a patch deadline by a week, and then I get him to admit that he was two weeks behind schedule, and it was *funny* to him.
And yet... somehow... life goes on. I'd rather a patch come out two weeks late than never at all.
Brewko has been the center of many conspiracies time and time again, I don't see Walrus nipping that.
Agreed.
Banning people is a joke to him and his dev team, people who should be banned are banned and then he can't take the crying and unbans them, then he continues to bitch at then for doing shit on the forums
Agreed again. But considering the amount of whining this community does, there's a part of me that doesn't blame him. There must be times when the guy wishes everyone would just grow the fuck up. Sometimes you give the baby its bottle.
He pretty much trolls the MxO forums all day long, there isn't a second when his name isn't in the online list, must be a work break right.
Makes sense to me. Considering there's really no other channel for the dev team to gauge community input and response, trolling the forums is probably in his job description. He probably just leaves a browser window open pointing at the forums while he works on other things. That seems more realisitic to me than imagining him spending nine hours a day doing nothing but reading a bunch of bad ideas and complaints.
Everyone wishes their vacations were longer. Maybe Walrus is just more vocal about it. And business trips don't count. Those are usually more intensive than sitting in a cubicle all day. He may get 10 weeks, but he doesn't get to take it all at once. I don't think he's asking for pity. He's just being personable by commenting on something everyone can relate to.
And then LESIG or whatever it is called is a wreak, with bias events and bias players.
Agreed yet again. However, not Walrus' department.
So just because he reversed some bullshit policy ain't a time to call Walrus dad.
In the case of the Tetragramma-whosa-whatsit, Walrus did the right thing. That's all I'm saying.

There's only one way to settle this once and for all...
...danceoff.
really, if I had the power I'd ban half the players.
