Title: Where is...
Post by: Ketamininja on May 02, 2006, 03:09:20 pm
...all the off-line data that can be provided from MxO?

Ok, I've been out of there for a little while now so it might be available, but if so, where? What the heck am I on about?

All the little lists of data that can be collected... RSS feeds, webpages that can be screenscraped, text files! .... are there any related to actual in-game world events, rather than storyline?

What I mean further, is a nice list of every player, their profession and rank perhaps. Even their last known location. To be honest, I'm not sure what else they can offer.... something that I think perhaps is a downside? For example, WWII online has an ever moving battleline. Areas can be captured, and fall.... all reported on the websites.

If allainces (Zion, Machine, etc) "own" section of the city, this could be updated real time, so that attacks can be seen (or graphed etc).

1) If anyone can suggest useful offline links, please post them. I would like to look at compiling any in-game dynamic info, and processing it for our benefit.

2) We should really petition something like this, and put it for discussion (or flame) on MxO forums. But reword it to make more sense :P I think this is an appeal of MMOG's

Holla!

That does make a sort of sense.  I like the idea of owned territory (outside of Mara C)

that is what this game needs, and Rarebit and HCfrog(2 devs that post on the fourms incase you didnt know) said they are working on somthing that will make pvp more meaningful, but that is all they said.

Battle lines, or zone control, is simply an idea I put forward here to give you an idea of how offline-content can actually be used. Actually applying these ideas to the game may be impossible to the devs...

...but my point is there must be SOME offline data that can be provided, from the type of play/action that currently occurs in game. A player list is certainly a viable option, for example, and there is no real reason why it shouldn't be (read only) available somewhere...

Even if it wasn't, surely we could make some kind of grab from the incoming packets to the game client...
