Title: Silent Hill -No Spoilers-
Post by: Lits on April 22, 2006, 03:41:49 am
Lits' official review of Silent Hill?
I want my two hours back.

Wow, if I had played the game, it might make a little more sense, or have been a little more entertaining. Two hours of nothing but sensless gore and grotestituity (is that a word?). It was really kinda funny, the moments when I wasn't worrying about throwing up. The whole plot was very "game-ish"... the main charachter finds clues and follows them, you can even tell (even though I've never seen the game played) where you'd have to simply dodge the boss, or manuever around certain areas, or leave certain items for a reason. But it was really freaky. I'm having a mess of people spend the night with me tonight, but then again, I still get creeped out by the Scooby-Doo cartoons, so don't go by me.

Anyone else seen it yet?

Definitely go see it. It is great for the special effects and gore. You guys are trusting a girl's review of a horror movie? Are you kidding me? They did a pretty good job of capturing the video games atmosphere and mood. Yes, of course, the acting/writing is weak, but you don't go to see a movie like Silent Hill for the touching acting moments. It's got the creepy music and all that good stuff. You will find yourself saying "wtf" a lot. Go see it.

This is the basic principle of male movie-watching.
Sounds awesome!

/sigh.... i'm surrounded...
Sorry, I forget I'm (nearly) alone in a fleet full of manly-guys. I have to use a guy formula for this. Sure, if you haven't gotten your fill of blood spattering, go see it. And there are dead, faceless demon nurses in short nurses outfits.... boobs popping out and all....
knock yourselves out :)

I LOVED the movie.  I'm a huge fan of the games; I've played them all, but still have to actually beat 3 and 4.  If you are at all in touch with games 1 and 3, this movie will make more sense to you.  They stuck very close to key elements from the games: the disgustingly gruesome gore, feelings of helplessness, atmosphere, music, monsters (as well as a notable boss from 2), locations, and a couple of characters (Cybil Bennet, etc).

Give me more.  I'd visit Silent Hill every day of the week.  Videogame movie directors (assholes and douches like Uwe Boll and Paul W.S. Anderson) really need to take notes from Christopher Gans and crew.

Play 1 and 3, and afterwards, please allow yourself the enjoyment of seeing this again if it lost you.

I went and saw it last night... and seeing that I am in a stupid backwards town.. when 90% of the people left that movie not understanding the ending I realized how good the movie really was... and why most people won't like it... There was no DEPTH in Resident Evil and certainly less in DOOM and BloodRayne... But this movie has plot depth in it... not only that but it isn't an "open ended ending" so much like RE and Doom... movies that will undoubtably make more... If you understand the ending it really isn't as open ended as it first appears to be :-D

The only one I've played and beat is 2. I played a little bit of 3, but I kept getting a headache (probably from forgetting to breathe) so I stopped playing it.

It got mixed reviews, but for once I dont think a movie based on a video game will suck.  Ive seen the trailer and various clips and it looks pretty crazy.  That Fallout shelter siren freaks me out.

Quick question then.  The games have always worked on the idea that the reality of SH is totally subjective: is this a theme explored in the movie?  Or is it just a town full of evil dead things?

I'd say 3 stars was quite good, freaky. But as Lits said you can laugh at some of the film. Well time for Resident Evil/Biohazard (As it's called in Japan) 3 lol.

It's called Resident Evil: Extinction here. Paul WS Anderson is still writing for it and Mike Epps' character is returning so it doesn't look too good  already.

As for Silent Hill, I haven't seen it yet but my friends all say it's awesome. They said they were giggling like school girls at how much of the little stuff from the game they put into the movie and the whole atmosphere was dead-on from the game. They loved it because it was a near perfect translation of the game into a movie. You have to appreciate it on some level for that.

Too many survival/horror games are being turned into lame action movies (ie "Resident Evil" and "Doom") so it's nice to see a survival/horror game made into a horror movie.

Anything with Paul W.S. Anderson attatched to it blows except for Mortal Kombat, but that is a stretch.

The Resident Evil movies arent even about zombies anymore its about a lame ass super woman.  Its a shame that George A. Romero was originally tagged to direct the Evil series, but due to his Land of the Dead(which was awesome) and Producers limiting his writing he turned it down.

I am curious as to which storyline(s) they make use of.

It looks like the Daughter from Silent Hill 3 in the sewer level.

The only one I haven't played is number 4.

If you like challenging riddles, play the games (you can even adjust how hard they are).

Ok Let's add my two cents in, if you've never played the games 7 out of 10, why? Beucase if you pay attention to the story everything is explained, if've you'd played the games and understood them 5 out of ten, there are things in the movie which don't belong but the ending made sence with the way they made the movie.

Oh and Destyn Yes and yes....

For those that want to understand why I say what I did, I think I'm going to make another post about my nit picks.

Just so you know, I've beaten all the games, SH:1 and 2, I've gotten all the endings, SH:3 I have all but one and SH:4 I've only played thought once so far.
